What is it exactly?
Long Live You is a new government campaign detailing all the programs available for older Australians. And the government certainly has a lot to offer.
This is a large and growing group of Australians. The fasting growing demographic.
And 4 out of 5 senior Australians currently get an age pension, and by getting an age pension (and the concession card), these older Australians have access to a large number of programs, rebates, supplements, discounts and entitlements.
It's also a lot of work trying to understand what is available, let alone apply for it.
With 1000 Australians reaching pension age every week, vast numbers of Australians are embarking on this journey, and working out the first step to planning their lives.
Long Live You is the government's way of showing just what is on offer.
However the answer is not straightforward.
The Long Live You website actually links you to a whole lot more different websites.
Let's count them:
That is 16 links. And some of those links offer links to more places.
And within each of these links, is more stories of course.
And there are the tax schemes, like SAPTO, utility rebate schemes, local council rates - or any of the 40 or more Government (local, State and Federal) schemes, programs, vouchers, bonuses, rebates, concessions, discounts, supplements or support that are on offer.
Long Live You may seems like a lot of links - but it is certainly not comprehensive.
The Government wants to help, and puts money and resources aside to help older Australians.
It's just that the process of applying, planning and keeping organised is challenging.
Older Australians have their work cut out for them.
