Later Life Advice has found more than 40 programs, rebates and concessions available for age pensioners. 

 

What? A NSW government rebate for Pensioners to help pay gas bills. 

How much? The value of the rebate is $110 if you have an account with an gas retailer or $121 for long-term residents of residential communities, retirement villages and strata schemes

How to apply? If you have an gas account with an authorised energy retailer  you need to contact your retailer and notify them and they will apply the NSW Low Income Household Rebate to your account. 

 

Background

The NSW Government has budgeted $26m in Gas Rebate concessions for 2017-18.

This is a substantial benefit to the cost of living for an Australian receiving an age pension.

How much? The value of the rebate is $285 if you have an account with an energy retailer or $313.50 for long-term residents of residential communities, retirement villages and strata schemes

How to apply? If you have an electricity account with an authorised energy retailer  you need to contact your retailer and notify them and they will apply the NSW Low Income Household Rebate to your account.

This is a substantial benefit to the cost of living for an Australian receiving an age pension.

Gold OPAL Card

What? NSW and ACT Seniors and Concession Card holders have access to the public transport network at a capped rate

How much? $2.50 per day

How to apply? Application requires setting up an online account, and providing your concession number. You can top up your card at the OPAL kiosks, or if you want to be really organised you can setup an auto-top up from a linked credit or debit account.

 

Background

The NSW Government estimates that the concession provided to pensioners, seniors and welfare beneficiaries is $676m.

Pensioners get a free drivers license and registration for one car

Later Life Advice has found more than 40 programs, rebates and concessions available for age pensioners. In this series we look at the rebate, the value and how easy it is to apply.

What? NSW Residents get a free driver's license and registration 

How much? A 5 year drivers license normally cost $180. The motor vehicle tax for a standard car is $457. The annual registration fee is $65. This is a saving of $702

How to apply? Application is easy. Simply provide your Concession Card details during the vehicle registration process.

Background

The NSW Government has estimated that free registration to pensioners will cost $313m in 2017-2018, the registration fees will be $59m, and the drivers license fee exemption will be $26m. That is nearly $400m, and just for NSW.

Appliance Replacement Offer

Later Life Advice has found more than 40 programs, rebates and concessions available for age pensioners.

That's a lot to track down, and many places to look.

Here we look at a good deal for age pensioners in NSW looking to update an old fridge and or TV.

What? NSW Government is offering discounted fridges and TV's to age pensioners. The objective is to replace older appliances with newer, more energy efficient appliances. Your fridge needs to be more than 6 years old, and your TV a plasma or Cathode ray model

How much? The discounts offered on the fridges are up to $600 for the bigger models, and you can save about $250 on the TV models available. A quick search online should let you know how good the deal is, depending on the model you want.

How to apply? Application is easy. You will need to have a copy of your concession card to upload to the site, and then you will deal directly with the Good Guys to pay the rest. There are even discounted delivery rates and a service to take away your old fridge or TV.

Sydney Water Pensioner Rebate

Later Life Advice has found more than 40 programs, rebates and concessions available for age pensioners. In this series we look at the rebate, the value and how easy it is to apply.

There are different providers of water throughout Australia. Each one will have it's own process for applying for concession.

In this example we look at Sydney Water, who provide substantial rebates that are simple to apply for.

 

What? Sydney Water provides a rebate to Pensioners. 

How much? We calculate the value of the rebate at more than $600 for a Sydney Water customer living in a house.

How to apply? Application is easy. Simply a phone call or an online application. You will need your Sydney Water Account number and your Concession Card number. Easy.

The NSW Government has budgeted $129m in Sydney Water pensioner rate concessions for 2017-18.
