A better way to find the right aged care provider

Simplify your journey with a smart list of providers and a clear view of what you can afford before you start visiting providers.

We prepare an overview of aged care in your area: Cost and Quality

Searching for aged care these days is like most searches - mostly sponsored content, premium placement, and paid for positioning.

Meanwhile the Government has all the data - it’s just not organised in a way that really helps you.

We take Government information about cost and quality, and organised in a way to be more useful to our clients.

This is the only way for an organised search that is setup to work for you and your situation.

We help you (all of you) work out affordability

Refine your search to providers at a location that works for you

By using Government information to prepare an online map, we can easily help people trying to work out the best location for their aged care provider.

For example, a spouse moving into care may be best located close to the remaining spouse at home.

Alternatively, a loved one may be better placed in easy distance of children and friends. This is your next step.

Our online map has no sponsored listings, premium posts or paid listings - just the facts.

Narrow your choices down to a shortlist that makes sense

Once you narrow down the preferred location of your provider, you can prepare a list using our toolkit.

With a listing of aged care providers by suburb, you can simply tick your chosen providers to start making a list.

Thi list will be used to determine the cost range of providers you are considering.

You can also use this list to easily compare Government Star Rating information.

With your list of aged care providers we can look at the range of costs and help you understand affordability and other important considerations.

This is the most complex part of the process - one which we make easy by calculating your outcomes based on Government rules, and highlighting opportunities or considerations based on the finding of our analysis.

Importantly, you will have clear information on the expected cashflows that will follow on from your aged care decisions based on a close look at how assets are restructured to pay for care, and the associated means tested fee and age pension amounts.

You organise visits knowing what you can afford

There is much more to aged care than just the cost.

Knowing that you can afford the rooms you are looking at will free time to consider all the other important factors in making a choice.

Prepared with a clear understanding of cost and the range of options available, there is no financial uncertainty.

Check-in with us during the process to keep on track

This is a process of many steps.

We are on hand to help you and make sure you are doing things right.

Centrelink will need to be notified of the change in financial circumstances through the process and we will be on hand to guide you, and to check the numbers to make sure information is getting through.

With 20 years experience, and hundreds of families helped, Later Life Advice is able to help you make confident and well informed decisions.

What you need to know

Comparing the cost of aged care providers is easy

Yes - working out aged care costs takes a lot of number crunching, however comparing aged care provider costs is actually very straight forward.

The cost of entry is the Refundable Accommodation Deposit. This is like the cost of buying the room and a share of facilities.

You can choose to pay this in a lump sum, or pay it like an interest only loan.

However - the interest rate is not set by a bank - it is set by the government, and at 7.90% is it as high as it has been for 10 years.

This means you should look carefully at how you you plan to pay for aged care

The Government has a comprehensive rating system

The Government runs a rating system over the 2,700 or so aged care providers.

The star rating system is based on four key categories:

  1. residents’ experience;

  2. staffing levels;

  3. compliance; and

  4. quality measures.

This is the most comprehensive rating system available for assessing aged care providers and it comes free with each listing on the myagedcare website.

We include this data in our aged care maps for convenience.

Many services that offer help work for aged care providers

Sponsored content, premium and platinum listing, paid content - we are all sick of it.

A Google search is no longer useful, as the results are skewed with providers with deep pockets.

Private companies offering aged care directories need to be looked at closely. They are not working for you.

If your search result is a handful of listings from aged care providers paying to get your attention, maybe your attention should go somewhere more focussed on your requirements - not those of providers with deep pockets

We will get to know your story, then talk you through your options and answer your questions.

  • Clarity on aged care pricing, quality and compliance

The best way to support people in these situations is to start from a position of detailed knowledge, and bring to the situation the relevant information.

There are pages and pages of information available from government agencies. It can be overwhelming. Let us help to narrow down what is relevant to you.

  • Understand choices in how to pay.

Every story is slightly different - however the larger amount of situations can lead to quite straight forward advice, with simple justification.

Getting that point can be confusing with the information available - whether it be a government website, a news article or friends and family trying to be helpful.

The best course of action will depend on your financial situation and your preferences.

  • Use government resources with confidence.

It can often take a lot of research to get the the point of justifying a pretty straight forward course of action.

However, even a straight forward course of action needs clear justification when other people’s money is at stake, and family members seek to act in logical unison.

Decision making well supported by publicly available information ensures family harmony in the decision making process - further reducing stress.
